Anne-Maartje Lemereis is an original spirit who, in a playful manner, responds to daily current events, as she has proven with her Happy Birthday Composer project on social media. She has gained fame as a composer with music-theatrical works, including “Odizzee” for Holland Opera with a libretto by Abdelkader Benali, the mini-opera “Ping” for Ensemble Vonk, and the music-theatrical song cycle “This is not a Fairy Tale” in co-production with KASKO and Stichting In de Knop. She has several chamber music works to her name. Her piano concerto “Twee” was one of the two compositions with which the rebel collective Pynarello won the classical music prize De Ovatie in 2023. Her music is heard in venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg, and at the Wonderfeel festival.

Anne-Maartje is connected to the Utrecht Conservatory as a teacher and mentor. She is the founder and organizer of Stichting In de Knop, which promotes composition education for children and young people throughout the country and supports young creators in making their own work. In the Liendert district of Amersfoort, she founded the Lienderts Orchestra, which has grown into a solid neighborhood orchestra and association. Since 2024, Lemereis has been appointed Componist des Vaderlands for two years. She aims to make composition education and music education available to as many people as possible. One of her mottos is: everyone can compose!

The Componist des Vaderlands is an initiative of Buma Cultuur that has created a figurehead for contemporary Dutch music. The Componist des Vaderlands is appointed by an independent jury.
