‘Gewoon Buitengewoon Mens’

What do ordinary extraordinary amateur artists need to flourish?

Did you know that half of the people on the street express themselves in colour? Because outside of being ordinary, people are often extraordinary: amateur artists. With a total of 9.2 million, they enrich our streets, community centres, living rooms and theatres like no other. With doers, dancers, feelers, players and creators. In all colours and languages. Chatting, scribbling, getting up and carrying on to tirelessly express ourselves from the inside out.

On Monday 3 November at 6 p.m., the national amateur arts campaign “Gewoon Buitengewoon Mens” (Just Extraordinary People) will be launched. The primary goal of the campaign is to reach as many amateur artists (just extraordinary people) as possible and to activate them. Through the campaign, they contribute in this phase to the development of the support structure for the amateur arts sector. We want to find and hear from practitioners, whether they sing in a choir, are occasionally active in a knitting club, or are completely unattached and “just” involved in art.

Which extraordinary person do you know, or are you one yourself? Let us know and take five minutes to share your opinion via this link. Or visit the Gewoon BuitengewoonMens website for more information. Together, we can discover what you need to continue adding colour to everyday life.
