Creatieve Coalitie ‘Creative Coalition’

Association of all creators

The Creative Coalition is the collaboration of trade unions and professional organizations, uniting workers in the cultural and creative sector. The goal is to improve the position of workers in our sector. We do this through effective political lobbying and organizing the structural social dialogue between employers and employees. Thanks to pooling our strengths, we can better represent the voice of creators, freelancers, and other workers in the culture, and improve their position in such a way that they notice it in their wallets.

Mission, creed with core values

Everyone who works has the right to just and favorable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection. (Article 23.3 Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

The Creative Coalition and its members aim to sustainably improve the cultural climate and socio-economic position of all workers in the cultural and creative sector with the following creed:

Fair payment pays off
This creed is supported by the following core values:

Realize that art and creativity have value, even when there is (still) no market for it – Art is an end in itself. Freedom of opinion, freedom of expression, and participation in cultural life are fundamental rights. If a society does not allocate money for research, it stagnates; like science, art is driven to gain new insights and better understand how we humans and our world function. Pay decent rates (‘fair pay’) – Workers in the cultural and creative sector should be able to make a living from their work, insure themselves against disability, loss or lack of work, and save for retirement. Let creators receive a decent share of the proceeds (‘fair share’) – Once a creative product (such as a film, visual artwork, art object, or publication) is made, a fair share of the proceeds should go to the creators. Sustain production chains (‘fair chain’) – Recognize the importance of the tasks, roles, and value of workers and creators within a production chain, the importance of a fair distribution and effort within the chain, and act accordingly. Part of a sustainable production chain is the structural conduct of the ‘social dialogue’ (information exchange, consultation, and negotiation on distribution issues within the chain).
