JacobTV (Jacob ter Veldhuis) is one of the Netherlands’ most frequently performed composers and is famous for his melodious compositions, which come straight from the heart, are pleasing to the ear and are not afraid to make an impression. JacobTV has a unique sound which ignores any distinction between high and low art. His work is aptly referred to as ‘avant-pop’ in the United States.

With his intelligent sample techniques, based on the melody of the spoken word, he manages to imbue his boombox works with something fragile and moving, composing music that goes further than mere melodiousness. Beneath the surface of tonality, rock and the influence of lower forms of culture, lies a deeper message that lends his music an enormous emotional charge and makes it sound fresh with each new listen. JacobTV’s quest for new harmonic solutions often leads to glorious sonic vistas in his chamber music and orchestral works.

The 12th international performance of his reality opera The News will take place this year. Following performances in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, the production can be seen in the Netherlands once again, including a performance at the international music festival November Music in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. JacobTV is currently working on a requiem for harpist Lavinia Meijer and singer Nora Fischer, which will also receive its premiere during November Music.

He recently received the Buma Classical Award for his oeuvre as best classical export product in 2015.
