Van Zweden recommends

Jaap van Zweden recommends a first team of Dutch Composers: Michel van der Aa, Louis Andriessen, Willem Jeths, Theo Loevendie, Martijn Padding, Richard Rijnvos, Joey Roukens, Calliope Tsoupaki, JacobTV, Klaas de Vries and Robert Zuidam.

Jaap van Zweden: “In addition to my appointment as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, it’s my strong desire to present Dutch contemporary music even more explicitly. It is truly magnificent to see how much they love new music in New York. That is also one of the first things that the American press asked: ‘Does he actually like contemporary music?’ Well, yes! One of the reasons that I was asked to become chief conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005 was precisely because I was able to demonstrate a broader palette than Brahms and Beethoven. People like to pin a conductor down to a particular repertoire. However, I cannot be pinned down. I love new music. That is also why I find this ambassadorship extremely attractive. I aim to take the role very seriously. Not only in New York, but also with the Berliner Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, I will bring attention to the great work of new Dutch composers.”
